We are reinventing the humble hot chocolate and when to have it.
Most people will reach for a sugar laced cocoa powder like Cadbury’s or some highly processed supermarket chocolate to melt (Cadbury’s again) in the creation of their hot chocolate. But we have gone that step further to make the humble hot chocolate healthy! And who doesn’t love a hot chocolate on a cold winters day, rugged up by the fire place with a good book?
What we have done is make this comfort drink nourishing, delicious and nutritious!
Switching out the ‘chocolate’ for organic raw (NOT roasted) cacao powder is a game changer for your health. Usually the cacao beans have been fermented, dried and then pressed to separate out the cacao butter, leaving this rich and delicious cacao powder. For some it will be bitter to the taste buds and for others the taste will be less intense. Cacao powder can be high in antioxidants and rich in minerals like iron for immune function and magnesium for cell health and it’s sugar free.
A practice member alerted us to what they were doing and so we decided to share it here with you! They make a hot chocolate at night and add a capful or two of our All Natural Liquid Magnesium She said it’s been a game changer for her sleep. And hundreds of other people are now doing it too. We are not a dairy milk household preferring to drink almond milk or coconut milk. You can purchase almond milk from the supermarket or any great health food store, but always read the ingredients as some varieties have canola oil in them amongest other questionable ingredients! Yikes. Better yet you might like to try your hand at making your own almond milk. It is easy to do just following our recipe!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 cup of organic almond milk (coconut milk, cashew milk etc) (see notes below)
- 1 tspn organic raw cacao powder
- 2 capfuls All Natural Liquid Magnesium
- Organic honey or maple syrup to taste (optional)
Here’s how to put it together:
- In a saucepan add your milk of choice and a tspn of cacao powder.
- Stir to combine whilst slowly bringing the mixture to boil.
- Once warmed add your honey or maple syrup and combine.
- Pour into your cup.
- Add one or two capfuls of All Natural Liquid Magnesium and stir to combine.
- Drink and enjoy!
NOTE: Do not have this drink right before bed, ideally an hour before hand. The idea behind this drink is evening relaxation and sleep – not to spike your sugar prior to bed if you are adding honey or maple syrup. If you want to add either of those because the cacao powder is strong for your taste buds do so in small amounts and then slowly begin to wean yourself off. If you prefer not to use almond or cocnut milk etc you can, like us, just use hot water. We also have an organic mushroom powder which we add the cacao and magnesium to with a dash of organic cream and it is beautiful as well!
