Our Camu Camu is the best on the market! Lots of people ask what is Camu Camu? It’s a berry from the Camu Camu shrub in Peru. It too is the highest in Vitamin C of any fruit in the world. Yes, the highest! We support local organic farms, who harvest, air dry and then powder down the Camu Camu for us. And because it is so rich in Vitamin C compared to over the counter tablets you don’t need a lot.
Some people, kids included, may find having the Camu Camu straight a little sour, after all it has a citrus taste and we don’t recommend having it neat. So we decided to put a recipe together making small gummy dinosaurs – not bears because we couldn’t find the molds – to show you how easy it is to get our great Camu Camu into your kids. Our kids are older but these are flying out of the fridge!
The gummy dinosaurs are so healthy. There are no addivtives, flavours or colourings included and all our ingredients were organic. The Camu Camu (Vitamin C) is vital for your immune, nerve, adrenal and skin health and the gelatin is high in protein and wonderful for your gut. These dinosaurs are a win-win for your taste buds and your body.
You’ll enjoy them and notice the difference regarless of what age you are!
Here’s what you will need:
- 1 cup organic orange juice (preferrably freshly squeezed)
- 2 tbs organic maple syrup (or you could use honey)
- 3/4 tbs raw, organic Camu Camu
- 3 tbs organic gelatin
Here’s how to put it together:
- If using honey – using a saucepan and bring the orange juice and honey to a very low simmer. Keep stiring. If you are using maple syrup you do not need to do this step.Just mix the maple syrup and the orange juice together until combine and move to step 3 – adding the Camu Camu.
- Once the honey is melted remove from heat and allow to cool.
- When cool add the Camu Camu (Vitamin C) and stir in.
- Now add the gelatin and rapidly whisk until it is fully dissolved. I used an electric whisk for speed.
- Slowly pour the mixture into the molds immediately.
- Place in refrigerator for 20 – 30 minutes to set. Try not to open the fridge during this time.
- Once the dinosaurs set remove from fridge and gently take them out of the molds.
- Enjoy!
Tips:
- For easy transport to the fridge pop your molds on a baking tray BEFORE you pour in the mixture!
- I used an electric whisk for speed as I thought my wrist would not be fast enough and it worked out really well.
- Whilst these dinosaurs are not a glamorous bright colour you can make them brighter by using different fruit juices eg pomegranate, raspberry, blueberry etc.
- You can subsitute the maple syrup for honey if you prefer but make sure when heating, to combine the juice and the honey, you do so slowly over a LOW heat.
Storage:
- Store in a clean glass jar in the fridge
- Store in fridge for up to a week (if they are not eaten before hand!)
